Worst. Liar. Ever.

Machiavelli? Yawn. Sun-Tzu? More like, “Sun-WHO?” No, if you really want to learn how to deal with political people, put down the mummified tomes and pick up Never Be Lied to Again by David J. Lieberman.

I cracked open the book, a former New York Times bestseller, again this week after watching the PubDef video on ACORN and McCaskill. Jo Mannies mentioned the ACORN-McCaskill controversy yesterday in her article regarding ACORN and fraudulent voter registrations.

The post you’re reading now was originally going to be a catalog of behaviors displayed by one person in the video, followed by the associated interpretation from Never Be Lied to Again. Then the list became too long.

So I’ll just link to the video and let you use your gut. Keep an eye out for a few of the telltale signs of deceit in the video (and if you have the book, check out the associated pages): quick, partial shrugs (p. 16); prolonged expressions of surprise (p. 20); a hard swallow (p. 54); and incongruence of head nods/shakes with the person’s words (p. 19).

Three people — Joseph Weick, Josephine Perkins, and Johanna Sharrard — each had plenty of time to speak. One of them is not telling the truth.
